My daughter Elizabeth and grandsons Fischer, Benjamin and Hayes left us in the blink of an eye in a car accident on July 30, 2012. As part of my grief journey, I began making personalized memorial wreaths to honor Elizabeth and the boys. I wanted something unique to illustrate special memories of Elizabeth and three little boys. From this process, I found that creativity is extremely therapeutic, healing and inspiring! As people began to see the wreath creations that I made to honor my loved ones, I began to receive requests from my friends and family to create wreaths for their special occasions.
I decided to start memorial scholarships to honor Elizabeth and the boys, and thought the best way to raise money for the scholarships was to create and sell my wreaths. A portion of the proceeds from my wreath creations go to The Fischer, Benjamin, and Hayes Dowdy Memorial Scholarship" at Salado High School, Salado, Texas. I am thrilled to announce that we endowed a named scholarship in honor of Elizabeth at Methodist Children's Home in December of 2015 largely from my wreath sales.
The name of my shop, Twentycoats Wreath Creations, is from Elizabeth's make-up artist business (Twentycoats). Incorporating her business name and reusing her logo and website domain is another way I have tried to honor her and celebrate her life and spirit throughout this journey. The sunflowers I use on my banner is because they were my daughter's favorite flower and the boys would pick them for her on their walks with their Dad.
